Make your first fitness class feel less intimidating
The nerves are usually about not knowing the room. A first class is easier when the level is honest, you know what to wear, and the teacher expects newcomers.
Choose a class that says beginners are welcome
Read the level and the description. A mixed class can still be fine if the teacher offers options. An advanced session is a poor place to learn where to stand. Check the length so you are not guessing whether it is 45 minutes or 90.
Arrive early and say it is your first time
A few minutes early lets you find the desk, the changing room and a space in the room without walking in after the class has started. Tell the teacher you are new and mention any injury. You can copy the person next to you. You can rest when you need to.

- What to wear and bring
- Where to arrive and how early
- That newcomers are expected
- A way to leave if you feel unwell
Decide afterwards, not in the car park
One class is information. If the teacher and the level felt right, book the next one before the week fills up. If it did not, try a different class rather than deciding movement is not for you.
