How to choose a hairdresser or barber

The right hairdresser or barber is the one who understands the result you want and can tell you what the appointment actually includes.

Read the listing, not just the name

Look for named professionals, prices you can read before you pay, and services that match what you want: cut, colour, beard work, or a specific style. A salon and a barber shop can both be right, depending on the service.

  • Clear service names and durations
  • Whether a consultation is included
  • Transparent pricing
  • Genuine appointment times where the practice publishes them

Questions worth asking

  • Do you regularly work with this hair type or style?
  • Is a patch test needed for colour?
  • How long should I allow?
  • What is your cancellation policy?
