How often should you book a facial?
How to think about facial frequency, what is included in the time, and what to check before you book.
Finding a rhythm
Skin often responds to a steady rhythm rather than a one-off rescue. A facial every four to six weeks is a common starting point, then adjust with your therapist.
If you are preparing for an event, book far enough ahead that redness or a patch test is not a surprise the day before.
What to check on the listing
Read what is included in the time, whether a patch test is needed, and the price before you confirm. Ask the practice if you are using active skincare or have sensitive skin.
- Cleanse, massage, mask and finish — or a more targeted treatment
- Whether extraction is included, and whether you can decline it
- Products used, especially if you react to fragrance or acids
- How long you should leave before makeup or exercise
Between appointments
A facial is not a substitute for a simple routine at home. Ask what to pause (strong acids, retinoids, sunbeds) in the days around treatment, and what to use instead.
When to wait or ask first
Recent sunburn, an active infection, a new prescription cream or pregnancy can all change what is appropriate. Tell the therapist before they start. If you are unsure, message the practice from the listing rather than hoping it will be fine on the day.
